Trimebutine, a new antispasmodic in the treatment of dyspepsia.

چکیده
Indigestion, flatulent dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or discomfort are among the commonest complaints in adults attending their doctor’s surgery or medical out-patient department (Switz, 1976). Investigations by x-ray or endoscopy may show a peptic ulcer, diseased gall-bladder or other lesion, but in many cases objective investigations are negative. Symptoms in these patients may be caused by disordered gastro-intestinal motility rather than a welllocalised lesion, and restoration of normal motility may alleviate symptoms. Trimebutine has been shown to have a relaxant effect on gastro-intestinal smooth muscle and a regulatory effect on contractility (Frexinos, 1971). The present study was carried out to compare the symptomatic effect of Trimebutine with placebo in patients with x-ray and endoscopically negative dyspepsia.

The effect of trimebutine maleate on gastric emptying in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia.
The study was designed to investigate the effect of trimebutine maleate, a drug used in both hyperkinetic and hypokinetic motility disorders, on gastric emptying in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia having prolonged gastric emptying rates and to compare the parameters used for the determination of the lag period observed during the emptying of solid foods from the stomach. Gastric emptying was ...
متن کاملProkinetics for the treatment of functional dyspepsia: Bayesian network meta-analysis
BACKGROUND Controversies persist regarding the effect of prokinetics for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD). This study aimed to assess the comparative efficacy of prokinetic agents for the treatment of FD. METHODS Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of prokinetics for the treatment of FD were identified from core databases. Symptom response rates were extracted and analyzed using odd...
متن کاملA comparative study on the effects of domperidone, metoclopramide, clebopride and trimebutine on the gastro-duodenal preparation of the guinea pig.
UNLABELLED Domperidone (dopamine antagonist), metoclopramide and clebopride (both dopamine antagonists and stimulators of the intramural cholinergic system), and trimebutine (spasmolytic) are used in the treatment of digestive disorders such as dyspepsia or gastritis. Our aim was to compare the effects of these compounds on the isolated intact gastroduodenal preparation of the guinea pig. Dompe...

INTRODUCTION Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habit. AIMS To determine the clinical effectiveness of the antispasmodic agents available in Mexico for the treatment of IBS. METHODS We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials on antispasmodic agents for IBS treatment. C...
متن کاملImportance of Rectal Urgency in Childhood Irritable Bowel Syndrome
TO THE EDITOR: We read with interest the article titled “The incidence of irritable bowel syndrome in children using the Rome III criteria and the effect of trimebutine treatment” by Karabulut et al that is a rare and a valuable study from our country. As the author stated, functional dyspepsia and urgency are very common symptoms in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients. Although the associa...
